What a wonderful day.  The sun was bright and this tiny town was at its best for us.  The ship didn't arrive until about 2:30 PM, so we made sure to take one of the first tenders ashore.  The town is noted for several things.  First, it was about 60% wiped out by lava flowing from a volcano which still looms over the town.  Second, it was the home (for a short while) of Keiko, the killer whale.  Third, there are large flocks of puffins nesting in the sheer volcanic cliffs and the locals harvest them by climbing on the cliffs with nets.
We arrived on shore ready to go.  Adele had her shopping face on and I was ready to see the scenery.  We quickly went our separate ways.  I climbed up to the top of the lava fields (I certainly needed the exercise!) and wandered around the network of trails.  They have done an excellent job making the trails tourist-friendly.  They have even set up "street signs" to show where the buried streets were.
I spent over two hours looking and taking pictures before hopping the tender back to the ship.  Even though there was nothing spectacular, it was one of the nicest ports on this trip - of course the picture-perfect weather had a lot to do with it.
